Create social media videos with AI
Hipclip has a lot of potential, and I love the idea of using AI to streamline video editing. It’s off to a great start with helpful features like filler word removal and transcription editing. However, the app struggles with basic, high-demand tasks like removing silences from a 1-hour podcast or meeting. When trying to remove pauses from longer videos, the platform becomes unresponsive, repeatedly prompting the "Wait" button in Chrome. This not only disrupts the workflow but makes it nearly impossible to complete edits efficiently.
For Hipclip to truly scale, the team needs to address these devops and performance issues. Moving heavy tasks like silence removal to server-side processing and offering a smoother UX (maybe with a loading screen) would go a long way. Really hoping the founders take these workflow issues seriously, as seamless editing is a standard need for content creators. Looking forward to the next update that can make Hipclip more reliable for professionals!
Hey Appsumo, we trust you, we follow what you point out as expertly vetted "Select" software and then we get this - product with 0 support, 0 updates, after the money-back period has passed. Won't you do something about it?
I initially found Hipclip to be great, but over time, it has become redundant and unusable. While uploading videos to Hipclip works fine, editing large videos presents significant issues. As many others have noted, you can edit the captions, but reviewing the video is impossible.
Even when working with pre-cut YouTube Shorts, you can add captions and other elements, but upon downloading, the result is a video with a black background, audio, and captions—completely missing the person in the video. This makes the software effectively useless for my needs.
I have attempted to contact their support team multiple times, including reaching out directly to Artem, but have received no response. Due to these persistent issues and lack of support, I have reverted to using Opus.
Was great for a short while. Then the videos are not uploading. I was told to upload to Youtube and download again which I did. I have still had no answer from support; waiting?
I tried to edit a Zoom recording. The import from Zoom to HipClip was easy and rather fast.
Then I used the automatic delete of filler words and it seemed it worked fine... but the only way to really check that would be to export the video because the real time overview is just useless.
That's the main problem of HipClip right now: you can edit easily your video by moving/erasing the words in the transcript but you're acting blind because the overview cannot read the edited version. The more you edit, the slower the overview.
It was a video in French. The transcript looked OK but there are sometimes some mistakes. I found that editing the transcript (to have correct subtitles) was difficult, mostly because the interface is slow but also because of the way it's made. For example, it's easy to replace one word by an other but not that easy to replace two words by one or one by two.
My video was a 1 hour 30 minutes video. It's probably too long for the current capacity of HipClip but what's the use of generating shorts if it's not from long videos...
For now, it's unusable for me as it is. I still have some time before the end of my refund timeframe so I'll wait to see if it improves and ask for a refund if it doesn't.
My main issue is about support but we are NOT allowed to ONLY talk about support so here's some other random stuff....
1. I am not happy with HC software as of yet. I have no idea how to do most things and no where have I found any info. Why would the instructions of how to use HC be "hidden"?
2. I tried to do the editing out of filler words but it left many very weird spots in my video.
3. Tried to fix #2 and it took WAY longer to get it back to the way it was because there's no undo button. That was the most distressing and weirdest issue of HC.
4. The clips that AI chose didn't even make any sense to me. They were probably just chosen randomly because there were clear start & end spots. So I'd probably choose my own for accuracy and meaningfulness.
5. I sent several questions yesterday in the HipClip chat function. The person only answered the last one and neglected all the others. When I let them know that there were other questions I did not receive another response. I am so very tired of companies who have no problem taking money, but do not service their clients (product/software) very well afterwards.
I just "left" another AppSumo video editing software before getting HC.
HipClip is not looking much better at the moment.
I'd prefer no one from AppSumo reach out to HC as that skews the "how well does HC support their customers". We want to know how they actually treat customers without their "parent" smacking them on the knuckles.
That being said, HC is the best of the ones I've tried so far. It cannot actually edit videos where big portions need to be removed. My boss gives me instructions throughout the video for editing ideas. So I need to have another software to easily get in and remove fine points of detail. THEN I add it into HC for captions mainly.
I didn't like the edit precision, I lost more time trying to get rid of silences and filler words.
I asked for help and never heard back from the support team.
So it's not perfect. As with all things AI - YMMV.
For me, I was cutting up a conference speech and it indeed did grab some interesting off the cuff segments that I could use right away if I was a fly by night operation. There's value to that - I can quickly create my content shortly after an event giving satisfactory 'most interesting' parts.
So that's my review of the AI portion, usable - not great.
The tool - that's five tacos. Regardless of what the AI thinks is cool, the human can still use the tool to make clips out of transcription easily and adds captions to it. That already brings me the value - the rest is up to the AI to actually do it's job from mediocre to wow I don't have to manually use the tool anymore.
Will keep.
I have been using Descript for 2-3 years now, but I was using it primarily for transcription, preparing short clips from my webinars and lectures. This saves me so much time as an academic & content creator!
Hipclip seemed no-brainer for my application. Even though my subscription with Descript doesn't end until next year, I went for it and got Tier 2 to match my usage. My initial comparisons showed that the transcription and filler word removal outputs are very similar to those of Descript.
Would be helpful to see the development roadmap. Thank you!
Great and helpful tool with lots of potential.
Pros
* Saves time by generating suggestions
* Easy to add captions
* Fairly easy to select and export clips
Cons
* No preview - need to export video before can view (this is my biggest 'pain')
* No fine tune editing (2nd biggest pain; some clips clip too tight/loose based on the word alone- need to export to crop properly)
* Support is lacking- no reply
* UI and clip management could be improved eg clip saving & naming
Would be great if different video formats, ability to add watermark and savings for brand eg caption style/position.
This tool has lots of potential however development needs to continue and speed up otherwise market lead could be lost to competitors.
I'm a Descript user and I've been searching for an AppSumo deal that covers the automatic creation of clips. Hipclip is a solution, but still needs some improvements.
The good:
- Transcripts are good.
- The clips created make sense. Not all are useful, but some are and that saves time.
- It's easy to export.
What I would like:
- Being able to edit the created AI clips. Sometimes is just adding another paragraph at the end, but I couldn't figure out a way to edit them.
- When exporting the created clips, keep the new name, not the old one. They tend to have great titles, but I have to go back and search for it because the exported title is the one from the original video.
- I would love to see the profiles and social accounts of people using the tool. As it is, it already can be used to create plenty of content. I use Descript to do this, and you can achieve similar results with HipClip, saving about 2 to 4 minutes per short video.
Good indicators from the product:
- They added a roadmap and have been fixing some bugs and errors.
- They keep answering the questions in here.
Bad indicators:
- Their Product Hunt page is from 2022 and I can see they're not doing so much promotion of the product, which is a shame because the product already covers a good use case.
- I also noticed that in general they're not very good at promoting their great product, as their social media presence is not that strong. There have been some sporadic postings, but there's a lack of a cohesive marketing strategy.
I'm giving them 5 tacos because they have put a good tool together and I'm sure with some effort and promotion, it can take off. I trust you with my faith and my tacos.
I really wanted to like this but it doesn't work and got no response from their help team. It uploaded the file, but didn't cut and could not download. Maybe in the future, but not now.
