Open source no-code business automation
II’ve been through my fair share of LTDs that fizzled out. Activepieces doesn’t feel like that. The recent changes aren’t a downgrade—they’re a step forward.
If you’re unhappy with your tools, I’ll gladly take them off your hands. But here’s my honest take: Activepieces is a gem if you stick with it and actually explore what it can do. Right now, it’s a real contender to n8n—only it’s simpler to set up and, importantly, you’re not boxed in by n8n’s commercial licensing. If you haven’t checked those costs, do it. It’s eye-opening.
For those who grabbed Tier 3 or Tier 4, you can spin up your own automation server for a fraction of what a commercial n8n setup would cost. And with the latest updates—MCP servers, agents, flows—you’re getting serious capability baked in. Those are not trivial features. Try replicating that stack in n8n and you’ll hit friction fast, and you still won’t be able to monetize without paying license fees.
I get it—many of us are wary because some LTDs broke trust. But what I’m seeing here is the opposite: the team is expanding what we can do, not shrinking it. To me, that signals they’re investing in the product and in us.
So let’s not dogpile the devs. Give the changes a fair shake. The potential is still huge, and the direction looks right. I’m saying this plainly: these updates are a net positive. Let’s build with it and see how far we can take it.
Activepieces is an excellent automation platform—simple to navigate, quick to implement, and incredibly useful for streamlining tasks in my business. Compared to other tools in the space, i feel like it offers a cleaner experience with just the right balance of power and usability. I like that i can stay high level if i want, but also can get granular when needed.
Outside of that, it’s interesting to see people upset about the plan changes when nothing actually changed for us Sumolings—our limits stayed the same. I had a conversation with the team and others in their Discord, and while we didn’t win the lotto with limits on new features, we got a solid amount appropriate to our tier. What I do know is that Activepieces has a founder who’s genuinely engaged and actively helping people implement this into their business. Personally, I’ve already made my money back tenfold—so if that’s the value I’m seeing, I have to wonder if others are even using it or just missing the potential entirely.
As a Tier 4 license holder, I invested in Activepieces not just for its current features, but for its future potential. The core of this deal, as stated on the AppSumo page, was the promise: "All future Cloud Pro Plan updates. If the plan name changes, the deal will be mapped to the new plan name with all accompanying updates."
This promise has been broken.
On July 15, 2025, instead of mapping LTD users to the new equivalent public plan, Activepieces chose to retire the "Pro" plan and segregate all of its early backers into a separate, dead-end "LTD Plan."
To make matters worse, their new public '$25/month Plus' plan now offers unlimited self-hosted pieces (MCPs) and unlimited tables. Meanwhile, my top-tier LTD, for which I paid a premium, is capped at just 10. This is undeniable proof that early backers have been placed on an inferior, legacy plan while new subscribers get better terms.
As an accounting professional who relies on technology for process automation, long-term viability and trust in a software partner are paramount. This move has shattered that trust. We are now effectively second-class users, excluded from the primary path of innovation.
Because of this fundamental breach of trust, I cannot recommend this deal. My 1-taco rating is not a reflection of the software's current capabilities, but of the company's broken promise.
Many users are calling Active Pieces a scam but I don't think its fair. I am however pretty disappointed with the limitations.
Ashraf, this is a fellow YC founder here. This is not hostile or personal but a genuine grievance. When we purchase LTD deals, we expect to be on par with future plans on the website. If you retire a plan and say paying users are closest to a free plan that is definitely not seen as a good faith move. It is seen as someone not appreciating folks who helped fund raise initially.
I understand the costs associated with something like premium AI calls which forces you to limit it, but definitely cannot see the business sense behind something like tables and MCP agents. I am not able to see any world where the bad reputation is worth the limits being imposed.
And like you have mentioned in other responses, most of us hardly use the tool but when we want to, we expect it to work. For me, I use it many times for quickly testing things out. There is no usage for several months then some burst of usage and then nothing. I am not sure why you want to aggressively limit us when the average usage I would anticipate would be no where near the limits.
Now remember that I am on Tier 3, and the limit is 5 agents. AI credits is 200 (same as free). Now you can ask me to be happy since this is a new feature but I please understand that the promise is "All future upgrades". We do not back LTDs for their current state. We expect to be fairly treated in the future.
I would like you to reconsider the limits. Please do think about how many LTD users actually use the quota and the cost of things like tables and agents and whether it helps your company in the long term to have so many vocal voices that prevent future customers, investors and general perception of the leadership team.
Would love to hear Chief Sumo’s thoughts on this? How are we as Appsumo customers supposed to feel secure with our purchases on the platform when you guys allow these companies to just disregard what we agreed to at purchase?
I personally can’t bring myself to support products from Appsumo after this. I bought ActivePieces with the vision of getting in on a Make & Zapier before they grow to the big leagues. But with this switch I’m left with a disgusting taste in my mouth for both ActivePieces and Appsumo for allowing this type of move.
“All future Activepieces Cloud Pro Plan updates. If Plan name changes, deal will be mapped to the new Plan name with all accompanying updates.”
This quote above basically means nothing. Might as well remove this from the products you promote on your site. Better that than blatantly show your customers how little you care about them by doing nothing when company after company pulls the rug out from “Sumo-lings”.
Then ActivePieces goes on to lock and hide threads to silence this community. The Disrespect this founder has shown to people who paid for an unfinished product is truly unbelievable.
Another fantastic scam on appsumo - LTD users are left on a worse-than-a-free plan. Disgraceful.
Yet another platform that has gone against its word. Totally disgusting.
If they ever return on AppSumo then do not buy this product because the developers do not keep their promise with future plans and development.
They market themselves with lifetime and mapped out to new plans. Support them. They don’t honor their LTD. Bought it to support them and their future present. Then they turn around and charge you. Then give you a sob story. Another rug pull from appsumo to the community that supported them in the first place. Utter lies.
As a Tier 5 early adopter on AppSumo, I invested significantly in ActivePieces, hoping to support the growth of a promising automation platform. Unfortunately, my experience has been one of deep disappointment, defined by a pattern of behavior that suggests the company prioritizes short-term fundraising over product development and loyalty to its foundational supporters.
The most glaring issue has been the decision to gate new, critical features like Tables and MCP servers, making them unavailable to the very AppSumo community that provided early capital. This is an indefensible move that breaks faith with early backers. While competitors like Boost.space are actively rolling out similar features to their users, ActivePieces has chosen to sideline its initial supporters.
This decision is symptomatic of a broader problem. The platform's development has been glacial, with a slow rollout of new integrations that leaves it feeling perpetually immature and unsuitable for serious production use cases. Beyond some initial testing, I have been unable to justify using ActivePieces for any real-world workflows. Community support, when available, has been sporadic and unhelpful in my experience.
For those considering an open-source, self-hostable automation tool, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Both ActivePieces and N8N are open-source, but the comparison ends there. N8N's community and development velocity are in a different league, a fact reflected in their respective GitHub stars: N8N has over 115,000, while ActivePieces lags with around 15,000. This is not a coincidence; it's a clear indicator of a project's health and trustworthiness.
Given that both platforms can be self-hosted with a Docker instance and a Cloudflare tunnel, your time and energy are far better invested in a project that respects its community and is committed to long-term value. ActivePieces has demonstrated a history of acting in bad faith, and it's unlikely their reputation will recover. Whether you seek a managed service or a self-hosted instance, the market offers far more reliable and community-focused alternatives, making ActivePieces a risk not worth taking.
Unfortunately, this turned out to be a scam. I purchased the tool with the expectation of future improvements and development.
They openly admitted that they never intended to fulfill the terms of the deal — it was just marketing and deception.
How can you build a business using such unreliable tools, where an agreement means nothing?
I hate to bring this up, but as a Lifetime Deal supporter, I feel let down by the recent changes. The AppSumo deal promised “all future Activepieces Cloud Pro Plan updates,” and that if the plan name changed, we’d keep the same benefits.
Now with the new pricing and “Plus” plan, it seems like LTD users are getting far fewer features than current Plus/Pro users—like fewer AI credits, servers, tables, and agents.
This doesn’t match what was promised when we supported you early on.
New Plan "Plus" User

500 AI credits & buy more

Unlimited tables
Unlimited AI Agents

LTD User

200 AI Credits
Where's the logic? I was one of the early supporters of this app, and whatever I invested early on, based on the founders' vision, is not equal to what new users receive now. Aside from investing money, the risk we took 2-3 years ago was much higher than it is for users today, now that the company is established. Honor what you promised. You're overwhelming us with new features that we don't deserve!
Honestly I thought Activepieces would be the last company I'd have to worry about. These guys put on a great show for awhile, and then pulled the plug. LTD was for the 'Pro plan' and now has been "upgraded" to basic. Are you actually serious?
I hope you get sued and demolished by the competition.
APPSUMO YOU NEED TO STEP IN AND SET AN EXAMPLE.
