Open source spreadsheet that goes beyond the grid
I purchased ReTable and I like it and I've used AirTable but Grist seems to be so much better IMO. Check it out for yourself!
Grist is something like Google Sheets + UI + AI + database features.
We use it twofold: One the one hand, it's a handy tool to analyze larger data amounts: here the understandable formula syntax (advanced Excel users fully covered) and the AI support for creating formulas come in handy.
On the other hand, the possibility to create (easily) UIs for entering data is perfect for our in-house demands for data collection.
Finally the ability to create charts based on the data is just perfect. For us, Grist is *the* alternative to Google Sheets (plus third-party integrations) and we actually feel also better regarding data protection.
Great tool and lucky to have it. Hoping to see if back for another round as well.
There are softwares which we purchase and then regret. But there are also software like Grist which make you happy for simply having purchased it. The more I learn about Grist, more I am amazed. I wonder , why did not big minds in GoogleSheet think this way?
This is a non incentivized review and as I was working on Grist, I needed some place to vent my positive feelings about this software. Next time, if the grist is live in appsumo, I request all not to miss this jewel. Grist is helpful for each and every industry.
I just started using Grist. Love it. This tool is going to be extremely useful in analyzing and organizing data!
To see the extracted details out of a pivot table item in spreadsheets, you need to switch back and forth using tabs. And each tab shows only 1 set of data so it's time consuming to dig/analyze data.
Do you also have data buried in the far right of a row that you always need to scroll to see, but then you can't see or compare with the data on the left of the same row?
Now with Grist I could build the relationship between tabs/sheets (as widgets in a page), and have multiple related data sets presented all at once, formatted to my likings.
This saves so much time to do data sorting/analysis.
Hoping that the feature to import updates from a file gets more mature/accurate so I could turn spreadsheets managed by other sources to my use without worrying about overwriting wrong set of data.
I really like many ready to use templates as till so far we've been using Google sheet for time tracking and Todo list management. I love Grist and highly recommend it.
I used to have a million different google sheets files open at any given time to track all the SEO and marketing work I'm doing.
But now I'm slowly migrating all my sheets over to grist and it's working well.
I've got a lot to learn yet to utilize its full potential, but even with the small amount I've done so far, it's definitely organized my workflow.
Amazing Tool!!!
Grist has easily saved me hours on editing spreadsheets and data analysis. It is Google Sheets on steroids and very simple to use, it took me just a couple of days to get the grasp of using the tool and I expect to only get better from here.
I was looking for a better way to keep track and share complex information about my projects with my partners, and even though Google sheets did the basics well I wanted something better.
I found it! Grist does exactly what I want. I am now learning the software and I should be good in no time.
Great product.
I have tried programs like Airtable and Stackby and while they are great programs — they are more than what I needed, so I had just settled for Google Sheets. GRIST checks off all the boxes for me and while I probably won't need the more advanced features, knowing that they exist with even more on the roadmap is very encouraging.
The CRM template is awesome, and easy to customize, and I am looking forward to more templates as the platform grows.
You can read the quality of Grist itself in other reviews. However I'd like to point out how the team is making the effort so you can use Grist optimally.

These videos are based on "close to real-ish" use cases, not just "to do" simplistic stuff. Really useful.
2. Grist Community Forum

(you don't have to be a current customer to access this)
You can see that either Dmitry (CEO), or Paul (CTO), or Anais (VP of Product), or Alex (Software Engineer), are quite responsive in helping users almost daily.
3. 1-on-1 Conference Call
This is not always given, but if you ask nicely they may agree. :)
So my wish, is that they keep on delivering good support like this going forward. I sincerely hope they will be even more successful.
