Meh

It helps, but it is kinda meh sometimes. The knowledge base is buggy. I had to buy the 1M tokens for 60€/year because I run out, of course. As sometimes, the code is bad and you need to ask again. And each help is quite a lot of tokens.

2 tacos because I have tried to contact them 2 or 3 times for bugs and never answered me.

If I were you, I would go for Github Copilot. That's what I am doing now and I regret wasting 100€+ and 60€ on the 1M tokens :'(

Unresponsive

I've never been able to get this to work and now can't even access my account. Been waiting over a week for support to respond.

Useless

The thing does not work as promoted , connecting to github is an issue when it does not read the files . Trying to refund and still does not allow to refund the whole thing . It will still charge me tier one . When i don't want anything.

Barely working

I have tried to use this, but whenever I paste my code in: "You have exceeded your requests limits. Please try again tomorrow or upgrade now"

I am tier 1 so I am not sure what the limits are, but I hit enter and I am over my limits "for today?" I wanted to like this but many issues. I am outside of refund window doh.

Do the makers actually code themselve?

I bought back in august 2023 and the product interfered with my workflow too much and even made code changes that could not be reverted. It was a clear no go.

In the meantime I tried Rubberduck, Codeium, Supermaven, Cody, Tabnine, Blackbox Al, CodeGPT, Github Copilot, Fitten Code and most recently Windsurf (formerly Codeium), Bolt and V0 (Vercel).

To be fair: All of the above are open source or offer free tiers and better integration to my workflow than codemate does.

I am not sure if the Codemate Team forgot or avoided to mention it: If you put your codebase or large files in context, it consumes already the biggest part of the tokens. They also avoid to mention how follow up questions count to the quota. They still, after being around for years, don’t integrate well into vscode or normal dev workflows and the weirdest thing: As a former buyer on AppSumo it appears they demoted my previous tier level since I now got a useless quoate (Tier 1 Plan back in 2023 had different deal terms which they don’t respect with no saying at all). I wanted to support the project and didnt refund and regret it - more for the buck than the product which I don’t miss.

To the Maker: This is harsh feedback. Would you have listened over the past 1.5 years as you do on the AppSumo comments, you would be in a much better shape. Do you even realize that you spend most time on arguing and explaining? If the majority of users is not satisfied you better listen AND ACT FAST since chances are its you being wrong.

1 Star Review for CodMate Chat Product

I recently upgraded to CodMate Chat Tier 2 with high hopes of resolving my coding problems efficiently, but my experience has been nothing short of frustrating. Within just 10 minutes, I exhausted all my tokens, and unfortunately, that seems to be a recurring theme.

I discovered on the website that there’s an option to bring your own API key, but I was dismayed to learn from various comments and reviews that this feature comes with an annual subscription to an additional plugin. This feels misleading, especially for new users who might think they’re getting full access with their tier upgrade.

Despite paying for Tier 2, I ended up using tokens rapidly without having the tools I expected. The inability to scan entire folders for files is a major drawback; having to manually attach each file to ask specific questions is not just inconvenient, it’s an inefficient design that hinders productivity.

In short, if you’re considering CodMate Chat, be cautious. Assess what you're actually signing up for, because the promises don’t match the reality. It’s disappointing to invest in a service that doesn't deliver on its potential. I certainly won’t be renewing my subscription.

Still sitting on the fence with this one 🤔

Like many others, coding is not my first language. I usually require AI to guide me through the code in more detail.

I believe the biggest selling point of this product is the ability to use the 'Knowledge base'.
Then, many of us 'beginner coders' can easily use this tool to collect context and be able to execute more complex tasks by using the power of the knowledge base. I believe this is the intention of this tool.

However, If this is how you see yourself using this tool, then sadly, this AppSumo deal is not for you.

The issue here is that CodeMate is the hungriest AI tool I have encountered so far.
As many others commented, I also somehow managed to use up the entire monthly allowance of 175.000 credits in a single day, and that was only by asking the AI to complete 2 single tasks.

I uploaded 2 Git repositories, smaller repositories, nothing huge, my codebase (again, nothing big) and a few other links. Apparently, I already managed to exhaust the initial 3GB storage (Tier 2) allowance, which now somehow totals to over 6GB.

When asking a pilot, I can only tag a maximum of 2 knowledge base items to the question. Then, each answer seems to cost an average of 40.000 credits. That doesn't really give me much to play around with each month, does it?
I understand that I can purchase the additional 'unlimited' add-on for $60, but I only just purchased Tier 2 for $169, which lasted one afternoon. 🤔

I might as well sign up for the $8/month unlimited monthly CodeMate subscription package, which offers unlimited usage without the limitations of Tier 2. It probably works out the same as the initial $169 (Tier 2) + $60 / year addon.

So, what is the point of this deal? I don't really get it. It seems to be just a 'teaser' to an actual subscription product. Is it just to create some exposure for the product so it gets advertised on AppSumo?
The Tier 2 I purchased seems to be only good for some 'light' use. Once you run out of monthly credits, which you most likely will, you will need to purchase the additional add-on anyway.

In short, I don't really understand this pricing model. I might sign up for the monthly subscription, or maybe not. I'm still sitting on the fence about this one.

Awful

Awful product that's nowhere near ready to go to market. Confusing and simply terrible at what it does.

Moving in the right direction

I don’t know enough to judge the quality of this service but I see continuous growth and that’s good enough for me and shows the people behind this product want it to be successful.

I dont usually write reviews, especially bad ones but.. this software is a joke

Does not really do what it says it does properly. no public road-map available and no reply from support. Hopefully they can fix their own code before offering to fix others code and make a good product.
